Kenneth "Ken" Dobson Miller, III - Obituary

K

enneth “Ken” Dobson Miller III, age 53, a resident of Frederick, MD, passed away on December 11, 2024. Born on September 12, 1971, in Silver Spring, MD, he was the son of Lynne Riley (Miller) and the late Kenneth Dobson Miller Jr. Ken graduated from Annapolis High School in Annapolis, MD. Ken enjoyed a varied and fulfilling career. As an architectural draftsman, he designed projects such as schools, pools, and custom kitchens at firms including Smolen Emr Architects, Inc. and New Era Custom Design and Cabinet Works, Inc. Ken also enjoyed the restaurant industry, working in both kitchen and front-of-house positions, and even launched a food truck with a close friend. Having a wide range of interests and passions, Ken enjoyed attending music festivals and sporting events of all kinds. Ken was a devoted music lover with a deep appreciation for all genres, a passion he inherited from his father and cherished sharing with him. He had a particular fondness for jam bands, especially the Grateful Dead. As a loyal sports fan, Ken cheered for Penn State Football, the Washington Commanders, the Washington Capitals and the Baltimore Orioles. He cherished his remarkable collection of ticket stubs from every concert, game, and event he attended since childhood. Ken was also a game enthusiast with a remarkable memory and enjoyed participating in trivia competitions and board game nights with friends. His instant recall of random facts was almost as impressive as his quick wit and ability to quip the perfect movie quote. A talented artist, he spent his free time sketching homes and architectural structures, even designing his own tattoos. He had a deep love for animals, especially his cats. At the time of his passing, he lived with his two cats, Luke and Kylo Ren. He was known to stop his car to move turtles off the road to keep them safe. Above all, Ken was a devoted father. He enjoyed taking his sons to the movies, sharing his love of Star Wars with his son Devin and all things Disney with his son Braeden. He was proud of his scouting achievements, including reaching the rank of Life Scout, and he supported his sons in their scouting activities. Ken was overjoyed when his son Braeden graduated high school and when Devin began attending Penn State. Ken is survived by his mother; his two sons, Braeden Miller of Frederick, MD and Devin Miller of Frederick, MD; his three brothers, Ryan (Ashley) Miller of Owings, MD, Paul (Hallie) Miller of West River, MD, and Michael (Rose) Finnegan of Harpers Ferry, WV; his stepmother, Dawn Miller of Shady Side, MD; and seven nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to celebrate Ken’s life with his family on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. A celebration of Ken’s life will continue at Adam’s Ribs, 169 Mayo Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037, at 7:00 p.m., where friends and family are invited to raise a beer in his honor.
